Its great to see they had these really cool special effects back in 1988. I wonder what a live action version of Transformers would have looked like in the 80's using the same technology? I wonder if it was ever considered... "TO THE GOOGLE-MOBILE!"


...no, it wasn't considered apparently!

I was just reading that the special effects for this scene were actually made using a combination of airbrushed animation (hundreds of individual hand airbrushed frames!) and animatronic figurines. There must have been a bit of CG in it, lets not forget TRON came out 6 years before this! Nevertheless, this is still totally amazing stuff.
