10 Scenes of Brutal Violence Guaranteed to Make You Laugh

The above scene is from Cracked.com's hilarious recent poll '10 Scenes of Brutal Violence Guaranteed to Make You Laugh'.

Included in the top 10 is a bullet proof Gary Busey (funnily enough from the film 'Bulletproof' - DVD now on order!) and an ultra violent Steven Seagal who kills a man three times (yes thats right, the same man three times!). Clips of these scenes are available to watch on the site too.

Its awesome, go check it out!

New UK publicity law

I heard today on the BBC Breakfast News that a new law will be introduced in the UK in respect of review exerts found on movie/theatre posters, DVD boxes and the like. The kind of reviews that say "Best film ever" or "I cried with laughter", some of these are either taken way out of context from the original review or sometimes completely made up.

For instance, "I cried with laughter" could have been taken from "...this film was so awful I cried with laughter".

Penalties for using reviews out of context or fake reviews could result in a two year prison sentence!

I know this won't happen but just imagine if the publishers used genuine and brutally honest review exerts, that could be a laugh.

A Video Game Star and His Less-Than-Stellar Pay

Michael Hollick, who provided the voice and body of Niko Bellic.

Michael Hollick never thought his big break would come in a video game.

All those years when he was struggling to get by as an aspiring actor — tending bar, working in a bagel shop in Morningside Heights, spraying perfume at Bloomingdale’s — he was aiming for Broadway and prime time. As he moved from regional theater to soap operas, middling musicals and "Law & Order", he remained just another good-looking guy hoping for an audition.

His face still isn’t famous, but Mr. Hollick’s voice and gait have moved into the pop culture firmament recently as those of Niko Bellic, the sardonic, textured Balkan criminal at the heart of Grand Theft Auto IV, the acclaimed gangster fantasy that has become the fastest-selling game to date. Produced by Rockstar Games and its corporate parent, Take-Two Interactive Software, the game has generated at least $600 million in sales over the last three weeks.

Yet even as "Saturday Night Live" has spoofed the Niko character, even as Mr. Hollick’s voice has been heard in tens of millions of homes in advertisements broadcast during "American Idol" and the N.B.A. playoffs, even as fans have flocked to his MySpace page, his triumph has been bittersweet.*

Spaceballs - The Animated Series

I was just reading an interview with the brilliant Mel Brooks about the up and coming Get Smart movie and he mentioned a new project he's involved with, Spaceballs The Animated Series. Mel will be the script director and will also provide the voices for the two characters he played in the original Spaceballs movie, President Skroob and Yogurt.

It will exclusively air on G4 TV, the same channel that showed the excellent Code Monkeys animation series last year.

Bale signs for Terminator trilogy

An untested production company (Halcyon) has secured Christian Bale's signature for a new trilogy of Terminator films and the coveted rights to the entire estate of Philip K Dick.

He did say he would be back, but whether he can combine being the 38th governor of California and a relentless killing machine is another question. What is certain is that Terminator is back for another three outings.

Producers behind the next trilogy are in Cannes to discuss the return of one of the most successful ever science fiction franchises.

Production began three weeks ago with Christian Bale starring as John Connor, fighting to save humanity against the machines.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull gets released to the general public tonight (well, its tomorrow morning really) at 12:01am. Need I say anymore?

I'm watching it Friday and can't wait to see it (if you hadn't noticed)!

Hot Fuzz stars to be reunited

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are going to star in another film together.

The pair have already had massive hits with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and are now working on a new project called Paul.

Simon told Newsbeat: "It's a road movie about two British geeks called Graham and Clive who travel across America with a passenger.

"It's very funny. I'm perhaps the most pleased with it of anything I've ever done. It's going to be good."

They're due to start shooting it towards the end of this year.

VHS Video Covers

Oh wow, my good friend Mike emailed me a link today for this great site full with loads of awesome VHS covers from yesteryear.

I'll admit I've been suckered many-many-many times into renting crap and totally bizarre films purely based on the box art.

Take a trip down memory lane and check out this site.

Good find!

The Cleveland Show

Recently announced by the FOX network, The Cleveland Show will coming to a screen near you in 2009. As you've probably guessed its a Family Guy spin-off and will likely be a rip of The Cosby Show but with the addition of Seth MacFarlane's twisted sense of humour.

Looking at the only picture available at the moment it seems Cleveland now has three kids (including a black version of Stewie and Chris Griffin) and a new wife. He has white neighbours (probably British or German at a guess) on one side so expect a load of racial humour and on the other side it looks like the neighbours are massive guinea pigs that probably talk. What's that about?

Family Guy is a very hit and miss show for me. Don't get me wrong, when the jokes and flashbacks seem relevant its hilarious but its just not consistently good when compared to South Park for example, one of my most favourite comedies.

Cleveland isn't my most favourite character from Family Guy (I really don't like the slow and boring way he speaks) but I'm willing to give the pilot episode a chance when it becomes available next year.

Star Tours Disneyland

Oh wow! I was just clicking on some of the related links to the Star Wars: Clone War trailer (found in one of the previous posts) and came across this. Its the entire ride and everything else for Star Tours at Disneyland, California.

This takes me back many many years. I absolutely loved this ride but can't believe it was just 4 minutes long! I'm sure we (me and my family) queued up for at least an hour just to go on it. It was worth it for the experience!

For its age I'm amazed the original ride is still around. According to Wikipedia, a sequel/prequel ride is on the cards, utilising funky CGI graphics and 3D technology.

Site update

I've added a little film poll to the left side of the page in case you haven't noticed.

Go vote.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008)

W'oh! Where did 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars' come from? Its a full length animated movie and judging from the trailer looks pretty cool, definitely worth a watch.

The only thing that made me cringe was the idea of a story surrounding Jabba's son, that sounds a bit crappy to me.

Flip the Bird

Here's another Flight of the Conchords clip, taken from the same episode as the previous post.

Albi the Dragon

Yes, its an oldish clip but I'm re-watching the excellent 'Flight of the Conchords' at the moment and forgot all about this.

The two New Zealanders have recently released their first full album. From the look of the track listing its made up with the songs from the radio/TV show which is certainly no bad thing although brand new songs would have been great, I'm guessing those will come with the second TV series.

Here's another clip, YouTube has all of the music videos from the show.

Awww... no fair!

I found out a few days ago that the new Gladiators show (appearing on Sky One very soon) will be having a wardrobe change. Apparently when wet the white costumes turn transparent.

And whats wrong with that?

Wouldn't that just make it the most awesome Saturday evening entertainment, watching the gorgeous 'Inferno' (Jemma Palmer) bounce around with everything on show! Think of the ratings!!!

Yeah, I'm a dog!

Heath Ledger Joker figure

If you see this figure in a shop to buy or can get one cheap DO SO IMMEDIATELY!

The Joker figure completely sold out within a few minutes of its release in the US, now to be found at some ridiculously high price on eBay.

It looks pretty crap to me but I guess if you want to make some money off the death of Heath Ledger nows the time to do it!
